Andre Savelio has described his happiness with his recent form, having put in another impressive performance during the Black & Whites’ 48-6 victory over Castleford Tigers yesterday.

Savelio, who bagged his fourth try in seven games, was named the Jacuzzi Elite Performance Man of the Match, boasting impressive stats including 33 tackles, 145 metres and five tackle busts.

After a challenging two seasons for the back-rower, Savelio has explained his happiness to be hitting some impressive form.

Speaking after yesterday’s game, Savelio said: “I’m really enjoying my rugby again at the moment. I had a rough two years in 2018 and 2019, doing my ACL in the NRL and then coming back and fracturing and foot and getting a medial ligament injury.

“I think I’ve hit a bit of luck, as you can have three bad years in a row! To get a bit of a good run with no injuries is great.

On his try-scoring exploits of late, he added: “With me having a big frame and getting those one on ones with smaller players in defence, you’ve got the chance to break through the line when you’ve got a good set of half-backs giving you some good ball.”

On yesterday’s victory, he said: “It was a pretty clinical performance. Parts of the performance were a little scrappy but Lasty and the boys are all really pleased with how the game went.

“That fast start really set the tone for the rest of the game. Castleford came a little bit flat-footed which we didn’t really expect from them, so that allowed us to get out of the blocks nice and early from the get-go and managed to keep chipping away and adding to the scoreline.

“The season is still alive and we’ve still got plenty to play for. The only thing we can control at the moment is how we play on the field, and as long as we keep performing like that, we’ll be in with a chance.”

Looking ahead to the final four games of the 2020 Betfred Super League season, Savelio believes that is the side can continue their current form, it will be a good opportunity to build confidence going into 2021.

“If it’s not to be come the end of the year and we don’t make the cut, then performing well in these last few games will give us some real confidence going into 2021.

“They’re a big four games for us, massive. Even if we don’t make the four, its all about building now.

“2020 has been tough on and off the field so if we can take some confidence going into 2021, that will be a really big boost. We don’t like to hear talk about how good the team is “on paper”, but we have a squad here capable of competing – we just need to find that consistency.”
