The winners of February’s Centre of Excellence monthly awards have been confirmed, with four winners across the club’s academy, scholarship, and college sides.

The awards have been introduced for 2021 and aim to reward the hard work of those stand-out performers across the club’s Centre of Excellence.

Details of this month’s winners can be found below:

Macauley Cromack – Student of the Month.

Zach Jebson – Academy Trainer of the Month.

Owen Briggs – Scholarship U15 Player of the Month.

Calvin Sandhu – Scholarship U16 Player of the Month

Commenting on the scholarship awards for both Owen Briggs and Calvin Sandhu, scholarship head coach Rob Wilson commented: “Both Owen and Calvin have really set a high standard throughout February. We ask all the players to post their meals on our Scholarship Facebook group and both players have been very consistent with the high standard of their food.

“Both Calvin and Owen post video evidence of them cooking and preparing their meals themselves. Owen regularly posts evidence of his runs and home gym sessions. Calvin is currently injured and cannot run at the moment but he also posts video evidence of his gym sessions. These two boys deserve recognition for the excellent effort they are both putting in.”

Meanwhile, Head of Education Ryan Langton added: “Normally with a group of young people, when bringing them altogether it takes a lot of work to integrate a new set of standards and expectations.

“This year especially the expectations where even higher so it was a pleasure to witness a small group of individuals thrive in this environment going above and beyond those expectations. It was also great to be able to reward their efforts to ensure they know their hard work hadn’t gone unnoticed.”

All four players were presented with meat packs, kindly donated by Exelby Foods. To find out more about Excelby Foods – click here.

Macauley Cromack – Student of the Month.

“I got the reward for logging on to all of my lessons in lockdown and really putting in the hard work to keep myself on top of my work and my physical fitness for the resumption of training.

“I managed to attend all online video calls to make sure I knew what I was doing and made sure I understood the assignment brief to make sure I reached the top grades on the work.

“I also managed to get a lot fitter due to me running 230 miles for Bone Cancer Research Trust which the tutors and coaches have been happy with because it showed I was willing to put the effort in academically and physically.”

Zach Jebson – Academy Trainer of the Month.

“It was a great feeling when I got handed the meat pack after training on Tuesday night, and also was great that all the work I had put in over the lockdown period had been recognised.

“It was our second session of the week that we had since we were allowed to return back and start to train again. It is great to be back working and training as a team and getting ready and prepared for the coming season.

“Over the lockdown period I did all that I could to better myself, so that when it was time to return to training I was going to be a better version of myself then I was when I left. I worked as hard as I could over lockdown making sure I was completing all of the home gym programme, home running programme and the grip / ball work stuff that had been set out for us to complete, whilst also doing extra bits in the gym and on the field.”

Owen Briggs – Scholarship U15 Player of the Month.

“I’ve been working hard over lockdown to stay fit for the return of rugby, and was grateful to be rewarded the meat pack from the club, to help keep my nutrition at a high standard.”

Calvin Sandhu – Scholarship U16 Player of the Month

“I’m very pleased to have received this award. Thank you for the recognition from the coaches, the meat pack looks fantastic and I’m sure I will enjoy it!”
