Brett Hodgson has reflected on Hull FC’s defeat to Catalans Dragons at the KCOM Stadium last night.

Hull went down 10-27 to the French side as supporters returned to watch the Black & Whites in action for the first time in over a year.

Hodgson paid credit to the visitors for their effort on the night, but admitted that Hull still have several areas of improvement as they continue to develop under his stewardship as head coach.

Speaking after the game, Hodgson said: “I’m disappointed. Catalans came with a good game plan; they put us in a corner and ground out an eighty minute performance.

“We learned some good lessons on how to play against one of the top teams in the competition. Unfortunately we came up short and there are plenty of areas we can look to improve.

“We didn’t play the way we wanted to in the first-half – it became a a real game of muscle up the middle of the field, we wanted to move the ball more than we did in those first stages of the game, but we became a bit fatigued which didn’t help us later in the game.

“We weren’t strong enough mentally to come up with the right answers at the end of the game.

He added: “We lacked a bit of clinical finishing. But ultimately the result was because they were better than us.”

On the Dragons, he continued: “We gave them too much field position in the second-half, but you have to give credit to them. They completed well and ground out the game and ultimately deserved the win.”

Hodgson explained that he expects to see a response from his side

th next time they play at the KCOM Stadium in front of supporters in June, as well as next week against Leeds Rhinos at Emerald Headingley.

“The crowds coming back is brilliant for us. They were trying to get us home but we just unfortunately weren’t at it today. It’s a while before we’re back here, but we’re aiming to put on an improved performance in for them next time around at the KCOM Stadium.

“It’s imperative we get a response next week. We’re hurting after that one so we’ve got a big week in training this week to ensure we’re ready to go again next Sunday against Leeds and get back to a positive result. We’re not the finished product yet, we’re on a journey and learning lessons every week.”
