Cam Scott has been impressed with the standards set in the first week of pre-season training at the Jacuzzi® Elite Performance Centre.

The 22-year-old centre has in fact been one of the more senior players to report back to the Jacuzzi® Elite Performance Centre for the first week of pre-season training this week, with the club’s ‘Rising Stars’ crop put through their paces in various conditioning drills.

As the majority of the remainder of the squad prepare to begin their own pre-season campaigns this Monday, Scott believes that the youngsters have set an impressive standard so far.

“It’s been a good chance for us to come in and set the standard because we know we need to put right the wrongs of the back end of last season,” Scott told hullfc.com.

“There’s some young lads who have joined us for the first time this week, so that has been a breath of fresh air and they have got on board with our attitude to working hard.

“We’re all here to try and earn our place in the first team and we can do that by concentrating on our own individual roles in the group and how we can make ourselves better. That can help us move forward better as a group of players.”

The outside back enjoyed a prolonged spell in Brett Hodgson’s side last season, making a total of 19 appearances in league and cup.

Such a run in the first team squad seems to have yielded extra confidence for Scott, as he senses an obligation to step up to be a motivational figure for those in the side who are taking their first steps at this level.

“I’m still only 22, so I’m still relatively young, but there are some lads even younger in the group, so I’m going to try and take on a little bit more of a leadership role this year, guiding those boys through some pretty tough sessions,” Scott explained.

“I like to think I had a big year last season. Obviously I had a nice run in the team with some consistent appearances and I would like to have that opportunity again in 2022.

“The fact that I was in on day one was good for me because it gives me as much time as possible to get ready for the start of the new season, and I’ll be cracking on and making sure I’m right up to speed.”
