Grix Looks Ahead To Wigan Challenge

The thoughts of the Interim Head Coach ahead of Wigan’s visit

Simon Grix hopes to see a more disciplined Hull FC performance when they welcome Wigan Warriors to the MKM Stadium this afternoon.

Hull are three games without a win, despite gutsy displays in matches against Warrington, Salford and Hull KR recently.

And Grix wants to see a more “disciplined” performance against the current league leaders.

“We just need to be disciplined about getting it done properly and holding our standards really high on that,” he said.

“We will keep hammering it home, practice, show them why it works and when it could have worked in the games gone by, and keep giving them that confidence to keep buying into it, which I think they do. We’ll just keep plugging away with it. Hopefully, it will come for us.

“Everyone plays quite similar. We can all come up with plans on how we can try to negate the opposition and take advantage with what we might see as weaknesses or areas they might struggle in.

“But if you don’t do it on repeat or do it a number times, you don’t get out what you need out of it. For us, it’s about trying to get that discipline with how we’re playing.”

The Warriors head to East Yorkshire without loss in nearly three months. In fact, their last defeat came in this part of the world, when they were upended by Hull KR at Sewell Group Craven Park.

“They are a bit of a machine, Wigan, and have been for a while,” he said.

“For as long as I remember, Wigan have been one of the best in producing young talent and bringing them through and then actually planning to have them in that team with the pathways for them.

“So it’s no surprise when someone at the top end drops out and the next man up just drops in and does a really good job for them.

“They have recruited really well and they have a lot of depth particularly in the middle of the field. Even if they rest a couple of internationals, they’ve probably got another couple waiting to come in.

“We know it’s a tough physical task against Wigan and we’ll need to be really good to be in that game, but we can’t be too worried about them.”
