Simon Grix has previewed Saturday’s Magic Weekend clash against London Broncos at Elland Road.

The Black & Whites will be aiming to make it three Magic Weekend wins in a row after victories over Hull KR in 2022 and Warrington in 2023.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Grix said: “It’s an important game. We don’t want to lose to them again. We’ve lost to them once this year, and we’d like to come out on the right side of the three games.

“But they’re a decent team; they hang in there, they stay in games, and they’ve got some quality in and amongst them. They’re a fit team; they’re together, and they’ve come up with a ‘nothing to lose’ approach. They’ve had it all year, and it’s gotten them more than what people would have expected.

“We just need to realise the situation. We’re in a situation where there is no relegation, but imagine if it were still in play with where we find ourselves. They are in a position of being down at the bottom of the table, which isn’t foreign to any team that comes up from the Championship, but the expectation here at Hull is always high.

“There’s been a lot of stuff and change that have contributed to where we are, but we’re down there, and if we play the imagination game, then your jobs are on the line, and in three months time we could have been looking at something very different to a full-time rugby league career. If that doesn’t put a little bit of a fire under people, I’m not really sure what would.”

On Hull’s continued support from the Black & White Army, he added: “Our support has been great, and I’ve mentioned it on more than one occasion. It’s been there; even at the weekend, they’re there at the end of the game, still clapping those lads off. It’s good to see.

“The lads are trying for them, they’re giving it everything. It’s not all going our way, but just as much as the good times don’t last, the tough ones don’t either. We’ve just got to keep our sleeves rolled up at the moment.”
