Josh Griffin has said his side’s continued defensive improvements are pleasing, but the Black & Whites have work to do on their discipline following last night’s victory over Leeds Rhinos.

Hull put in a hard-fought and gritty performance to down the Rhinos at Emerald Headingley Stadium last night, claiming the 18-12 victory thanks to some superb second-half defence.

But Griffin explained his side must make improvements with their discipline to prevent opposing sides from having so many opportunities.

Speaking after the match, Griffin said: “That was the response we needed. We’ve come here full of confidence despite the result last week.

“But our discipline has ruined our game for us and this is what we’ve got to address.

“We have to look at our discipline, our attack was a bit better there though in tough conditions.

“Our defence is definitely one of our improvements, they’ve thrown a lot at us and in that second half we were defending our line too much.”

Griffin bagged a try on the night as Hull left edge threatened the Rhinos throughout, with wing partner Adam Swift scoring FC’s other two tries on the night.

Despite Hull’s ill-discipline, it was the torrential conditions which didn’t help the Black & Whites and contributed to several errors in the game

“It was great to have supporters in here, but the conditions were the most challenging aspect of that performance rather than them being loud.”
