Chris Satae says he is “honoured” to have won three separate awards at Hull FC’s Player of the Year awards ceremony, which took place online yesterday evening.

The Tongan prop forward swept up the Player of the Year, Players’ Player of the Year and Supporters’ Player of the Year after an inspiring year for the Black & Whites.

Scoring four tries in all competitions this season, Satae also made over 1900 metres throughout the 2021 campaign.

“I’m really honoured to have won the three awards, purely because it shows the respect my coach, my peers and the supporters have for me,” Satae told hullfc.com

“But at the same time it has been tough given the way we ended the season. Maybe in a couple of weeks I can look back and really appreciate the awards – don’t get me wrong, I take real pride in winning them – but I’m still gutted with the way we finished the year.

“Looking back, I was probably at my best this year at the start of the summer. I feel like I was playing really well during that spell.

“The month break was really difficult for us as a group and myself personally. That took some coming back from.”

Speaking about winning both the Players’ Player and Supporters’ Player of the Year awards, Satae added: “These are the boys I spend pretty much every day with and the same boys I go into battle with each week, so I’m really honoured to have earned their respect.

“And to have earned the respect of the fans as well. No words can explain how that feels to me.”

Satae has just completed his second full season with the Airlie Birds, having joined the club towards the end of the 2019 campaign.

“When I came to Hull, I was looking for a club to give me an opportunity to be who I am, playing the way I want to be able to play.

“It took some adjusting, but I think I got into my groove here at the club and I feel like it was a great decision to come to the club.

“I enjoy having the opportunity to express myself on the field and I feel like Hodgo [Brett Hodgson] has allowed me to do that.

“You can probably see that in the way I have played this season. Hodgo has put a lot of faith in me and I have really enjoyed myself.”
