Members of the Hull FC Community Foundation team will complete a full-length wheelchair marathon next weekend to raise funds for their ‘Tackling Challenges’ fundraiser campaign.

The team, consisting of five members of the Hull FC Community Foundation, will travel via wheelchair from their Youth Performance Centre based to Ulrome, Skipsea on Saturday 20th June in the latest of their unique challenges.

Ryan Langton, Liam Welham, Connor Bower, Mark Harling and Kieran Smith will be aiming to raise money for the ‘Tackling Challenges’ fund, part of the Aviva Community Fund, with funds raised going helping enable the Hull FC Community Foundation maintain key services that support some of the most vulnerable young people growing up in Hull today.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had and will continue to have a significant impact on the way the Hull FC Community Foundation delivers its services to young people in the future. But despite the challenges, the Foundation views this as an opportunity to reach more young people who require support with their mental health at this time.

Funding raised through the ‘Tackling Challenges’ initiative will support the Foundation to invest in a new online delivery programme which will support young people to access health and education support safely from their homes.

‘Tackling Challenges’ will deliver daily mentoring, employability, and mental resilience sessions through online channels that can be accessed by the young people during periods of lockdown, self-isolation, or when physical delivery sessions are at full capacity.

The challenge is just the latest for the Foundation team, having cycled from Hull to London last year, via every Super League ground in the North of England first, in time for the Challenge Cup Final.

Speaking to hullfc.com, Ryan Langton, Head of Education said: “Last year we cycled from Hull to London and this year we wanted to do something similarly challenging.

“We planned this quite last minute due to everything that is going on at the moment, so we’ve not had a lot of training under our belt – we’re expecting a really tough day, but we’re looking forward to the challenge and to raise some important funds to help us continue our work in the local community.
