Hull FC have named their Centre of Excellence roster for 2022

Club News

Hull FC have named their Centre of Excellence squads for 2022, featuring over 100 of the region’s most-promising young players across their reserves, academy, scholarship and college squads.

The club’s Centre of Excellence, the overarching pathway for the club’s development programmes, was introduced ahead of the 2021 season, and combines top-class coaching and facilities with tailored education and mentorship, strengthening the route from grassroots rugby to first-team.

The Category 1 ‘Outstanding’ rated Centre of Excellence now boasts five squads – scholarship (U15s & U16s), academy (U17s & U18s), reserves (U19s), and the Hull FC Sports College which features elite and development sides.

In addition, a number of players within the pathway have been selected in the club’s Rising Stars programme for players on the cusp of breaking into the first-team.

The club’s reserve side returns for the first time since 2019 following its Covid-enforced suspension over the last two seasons, with a 13-team competition running alongside the U18s academy competition, which will return to a competitive league format next year.

The squad will be made up of a small number of part-time players retained within the Centre of Excellence system having, as well as members of the first-team and academy squads.

Fixtures for our Hull FC Sports College elite and development sides are already well underway, having kicked off in September, with our elite squad previously crowned champions of the National Colleges League in their debut season in 2019/20 – winning all but one game.

The pathway allows players to learn and train in a full-time environment with the club, whilst progressing into the Hull FC academy and reserve teams, as well as providing a number of alternative exit routes into higher education and employment.

The roster for the new season includes 109 players aged between 14 and 20, including some of the brightest young talent from the region and further afield.

The group includes nine players who already find themselves as part of the club’s first-team setup through our Rising Stars programme, having excelled in the Centre of Excellence environment over the last 12 months.

The group includes trio Aidan Burrell, Marcus Walker and Jacob Hookem, all of whom made their senior debut in 2021, as well as Hull FC Sports College graduates Davy Litten and Zach Jebson, and England Youth international Harvey Barron.

The club will continue to enhance their national footprint over the next 12 months as they continue to progress with their regional talent hubs, including across Yorkshire, the North-West and the Midlands, amongst other areas.

In addition, the Centre of Excellence programme also boasts a women and girls rugby league pathway from U12s to open age, with the senior squad playing in the Championship next season, alongside our Learning Disability Rugby League and 2019 championship winning wheelchair team.
