As part of a Academy Player in Focus feature series, in association with G&J Staffing, we’ll be taking a closer look at some of the Hull FC Academy players to keep a close eye on in the near future.
This week, we’ll be taking a closer look at winger Harvey Barron.
Tell us a little bit about how you were originally picked up by the City of Hull Academy.
I started Rugby League when I was at secondary school, but I was actually picked up through the talent transfer programme from playing football. This meant when I joined the City of Hull Academy programme, I was training with a bunch of lads who had never played the sport before
I then move across to the COHA Development side where they said that if I joined an amataur club, I’d be signed onto their scholarship, so that’s when I joined Beverley Braves.
What do you make of the facilities at Bishop Burton?
The facility is only ten minutes up the road from me so that’s really convenient. Inside and outside here, it’s a really strong set-up here and we all reap the benefits.
Which professional players do you look up to?
As a winger, it’s hard not to look up to the likes of Tommy Makinson with his finishing and work-rate, and a bit of Josh Addo-Carr with his speed and athleticism.
How do you feel to be back under the Hull FC badge?
It’s a lot better to play under the Hull FC name. It feels like you get a bit more of a look in.
And you’ve been named in the England National Academy Performance Squad – how excited are you for that opportunity?
It’s a hugely exciting opportunity, especially only having been playing a few years. The chance to go on tour would be incredible. To do that with some of the other boys at FC would be a really special moment for me. We’re all good mates
