Jordan Lane has reflected on yesterday’s draw against Warrington Wolves, admitting the game was Hull’s toughest of the season so far.
The back-rower picked up the Jacuzzi Elite Performance Man of the Match award having played his part in both of the Black & Whites’ tries with two impressive line-breaks.
However, the scores from Jake Connor and Carlos Tuimavave weren’t enough to prevent the game going into golden-point, with the match finishing at 14-14 after 10 minutes of extra time.
Speaking after the match, Lane said: “It was a hard-fought game but our attack was a bit short at times. Two people slipping allowed them to get over at the end so there wasn’t a lot we could do about it, but overall our defence was outstanding.
“I don’t think either team deserved to lose. I’m not sure what happens with the table in terms of the win-percentage, but it’s just a shame we couldn’t walk away with the win on an afternoon with perfect conditions.
“It’s the toughest game we have played this season. They stuck with us for ninety minutes.”
On his own individual performance and involvement in both tries, he added: “As a second-rower, breaking through the line like that is my job in the team. I’m always putting myself forward as an option to hit those lines and get through the gaps.
Looking ahead to this week’s clash against Wakefield at the KCOM Stadium, he continued: “We gave away a couple of penalties, and made a few errors which we need to work on. But we go into next week in a positive frame of mind. We’re still unbeaten and we’re always correcting our mistakes, and revisiting some moves that we need to change.
“We have a real togetherness amongst the group, and it is the closest we have been in years. We’ve worked so hard on our defensive efforts and that is showing. We’re all buying into the systems that Brett is putting in place.”
