All of the key info as Hull FC prepare to face Wakefield Trinity in Round 4 of the Betfred Super League tomorrow
Hull are one of five Super League sides still unbeaten across all competitions after Sunday’s exhilarating draw with Warrington Wolves.
Meanwhile, Wakefield are still searching for their first win of 2021, having been dumped out of the Challenge Cup and suffering league defeats to Leeds, Wigan and Saints in the opening three Super League rounds.
Team News
Brett Hodgson said Ligi Sao has had a “great week” in training building up to this game, and the Samoa international was named in the 21-man squad to face Wakefield.
Sao replaced fellow forward Jack Brown in the 21-man squad as the youngster serves a one match suspension.
Josh Reynolds (hamstring), Manu Ma’u (calf), Jamie Shaul (knee) and Masi Matongo (knee) are the other absentees for the Black & Whites.
Despite losing Jacob Miller to injury, Chris Chester welcomed Max Jowitt, Liam Kay and Kelepi Tanginoa back into his 21-man squad for Trinity’s visit to the KCOM Stadium.
There were also hopes that Bill Tupou would return to action for the West Yorkshire outfit, but he didn’t make the squad, whilst winger Tom Johnstone remains sidelined through concussion.
Youngster Sam Eseh was named in the Trinity 21-man squad for the first time.
Hull 21-man squad: Connor, Faraimo, Tuimavave, Griffin, Fonua, Sneyd, Taylor, Houghton, Satae, Savelio, Sao, Johnstone, Cator, Lane, Fash, McNamara, Swift, Bowden, Scott, Ferreira, Vulikijapani
Trinity 21-man squad: Jowitt, Lyne, Kay, Lino, Fifita, K Wood, Arona, Tanginoa, Westerman, Pitts, Battye, Batchelor, Green, Senior, Crowther, Arundel, Croft, B Walker, Kershaw, Hampshire, Eseh
What’s the lowdown on Trinity?
After a below-par start to the season, Trinity will be coming to the KCOM Stadium in search of their first win of 2021.
Although they were comfortably beaten by St Helens in the end last time out, Wakefield will have taken plenty of encouragement from their first half performance, keeping the scores locked at 0-0 until the half-time interval.
But injuries have made life difficult for Chris Chester of late, losing star winger Tom Johnstone to concussion, and more recently, key pivot Jacob Miller.
Only Salford and Leigh have conceded more points than Wakefield in the opening three rounds of Super League so far, so Hull will be looking to examine their defensive line as much as they possibly can.
Ones To Watch
Hull: Carlos Tuimavave – Undisputedly one of Super League’s most consistent performers in recent years, Tuimavave will no doubt be looking to expose Wakefield’s defensive left edge tomorrow. Only Wigan’s Zak Hardaker has made more metres than Tuimavave so far this season after the centre posted an impressive 215 metres against Warrington last time out. Despite drawing blanks in his first two appearances of 2021, Tuimavave has scored three tries in his last two matches, so he will be looking to continue his fine form.
Trinity: Kelepi Tanginoa – Wakefield’s one and only inclusion in the 2020 Super League Dream Team has returned to Trinity’s 21-man squad this week after missing last weekend’s tie with St Helens, and it could provide Chris Chester with a timely boost. An impact back rower, the former Manly forward can wreak havoc in the defensive line with his line running and lateral runs. Tanginoa scored a brace of tries in Wakefield’s last meeting with the Airlie Birds, and he’ll be hungry to cross the line again tomorrow.
