Marc Sneyd has hailed the Black & White supporters on their return to the KCOM Stadium last night after a 14 month absence.

The club’s loyal members got their first opportunity to see their side in the flesh since March 2020 last night as Brett Hodgson’s men took on Catalans Dragons on the first day of the latest stage of the lifting of lockdown restrictions.

Despite the result, which saw Hull go down 27-10 to the French outfit, co-captain Sneyd explained his delight to hear and see the fans back in the stands.

Speaking after the game, he said: “It was an incredible feeling – after so long, I’d genuinely forgotten how good it is to have them here.

“Everyone has said throughout this pandemic how much we have missed the fans being in the stadium, but to feel that roar again when you walk out of the tunnel was outstanding, and a big step in the right direction.

“They made plenty of noise, and they carry you along when your down in the dumps – we didn’t put in the best performance today, but they stuck with us right until the end.”

On the match itself, Sneyd explained that it was small errors across the field that cost Hull from getting a result.

“We played stupidly at times – we finally put a few sets together and ended sets how we wanted to, and then we came up with some dumb plays, so it was nothing but our own fault.

“We were our own worst enemies. On a positive note, we know where we went wrong and it shouldn’t take too much for us to put right.

I didn’t do my job to the best of my abilities this evening, but I think it was just little errors across the park that cost us.”

He added: “This is probably the first blemish on the season. We want to watch it back and reassure ourselves that we’re not a million miles away, because we’re not – we just need to stamp out a couple of dumb things that we’re doing at the moment.”
