Women Topple Barrow In Big Win

The report as Hull FC Women defeated Barrow

Match Report News

Hull FC Women defeated top-of-the-table Barrow Raiders Women 40-24 at the University of Hull on Sunday afternoon.

Barrow did their level best to stay within touching distance of the Black & Whites, but late tries from Leanne Baggley and Ruby Magson helped seal a big win against the league leaders.

The visitors started on the front foot and scored on the back of a Hull FC error to score in the right hand corner to take a 4-0 lead.

From the restart, the hosts piled the pressure back on Barrow and gathered a loose ball, with Kayleigh Waller scoring off the back of a great line shortly afterwards.

Another error from the restart gave Barrow the impetus to regain the lead, but Hull managed to cope with an attritional period of the match to hit back through Cassy Lawson’s powerful effort.

Waller added another try with some expert individual skill to give Hull a nice, cushioned lead at the interval.

HALF-TIME: Hull 18-10 Raiders

A strong finish to the first half gave Hull a spring in their step heading into the second half – Leanne Baggley’s cross-field kick was well claimed by Charlie Parkinson to extend the lead to 22-10.

But Barrow displayed their top-of-the-table credentials during a dominant period in the game, during which they scored two tries to bring the score back to within just two points.

The physicality of the match went up a notch again as the result hung in the balance, but it was Hull who broke through the Barrow defence next thanks to Helen Needham’s score in the corner.

The Raiders displayed good character to respond once more in the corner, bringing the scores back to 28-24.

But that was as close as the Cumbrian’s came to victory as Baggley and Ruby Magson scored late tries to seal a big victory for Sam French’s side.
