The Hull FC Community Foundation has announced over 800 hours of camps for young people across the city of Hull this summer, which will be free to attend for all!
The six week programme, in partnership with Hull City Council, will see hundreds of young children across the city benefit from the sessions, led by the Foundation’s coaches.
The camps forms part of the Government’s Holiday Activity & Food Programme, which has provided healthy food and enriching activities to a small proportion of disadvantaged children since 2018, with the project being expanded across the whole of England in 2021 to encourage children’s return to active lifestyles as the country begins to recover from the Covid-19 pandemic.
This funding is provided to local authorities to coordinate free holiday provision, including healthy food and enriching activities for children.
The Hull FC Community Foundation has been identified as a key strategic partner and will work with Hull City Council and other partners across the summer holidays to provide programmes of coordinated activities to support families and enable children to have fun and stay active while away from the classroom.
The coordination of the Holiday Activity & Food offer will be delivered centrally in partnership with Hull Catering, Fareshare Hull and Humber and any other specific facility catering provision.
The camps are also part of the Black and Whites’ ongoing commitment to helping grow rugby league and develop players for the future, running alongside a host of projects and programmes to engage with, educate and inspire local juniors.
Camps will vary from Rugby League, to disability multi-sports, as well as Wheelchair Rugby League, and variations of dance including contemporary, street dance and cheerleading.
Camps won’t just be confined to being held at the club’s Centre of Excellence facility either, with the club’s coaches getting out into the city’s local communities and delivering sessions at various primary and secondary schools, as well as at Hull University and at some of Hull’s community clubs including Hull Dockers, Hull Wyke and West Hull
Most significantly, the camps are free for all young children to attend, meaning sessions are accessible for all young children across the city, with various sessions for various age groups.
Head of Hull FC’s Community Foundation, James Price, said: “We are really pleased to be in a position to offer these free holiday activity sessions for children and young people living in Hull and are grateful to Hull City Council for their funding support.
“We are very aware of the challenges Covid-19 has placed on families and children and young people, and believe physical activity can play a part in supporting better mental health for all.”
