Hull FC are pleased to unveil their new intake of U15 Scholarship players for the 2024 season.
The club welcomes 17 new players from community clubs across the city, and further afield, who will officially join the club’s Centre of Excellence programme in the autumn.
The club’s Centre of Excellence, the overarching pathway for the club’s development programmes, was introduced ahead of the 2021 season, and combines top-class coaching and facilities with tailored education and mentorship, strengthening the route from grassroots rugby to first-team.
This season, the programme features over 100 of the region’s most promising young players, with the Centre of Excellence set to continue to grow from strength to strength with its latest intake of players for next season, with the aim of developing local players to become stars for the Black & Whites’ first-team.
The Centre of Excellence is already starting to bear fruits, with the likes of Davy Litten, Harvey Barron and Nick Staveley featuring for the Black & Whites in 2023, as well as the likes of Matty Laidlaw and Denive Balmforth who are currently enjoying loan spells away from the club.
Alongside our Scholarship sides (U15 & U16), the programme also features our Academy (U17 & U18), Reserves (U21), Hull FC Sports College (Elite & Development), Girls (U12, U14 & U16), Women, and Disability sides (LDRL, PDRL, Wheelchair) – the entire Category 1 ‘Outstanding’ rated Centre of Excellence programme based alongside the first-team at the University of Hull.
The 17 new U15 players will combine with this season’s first year players, who will move into their second year (U16) in 2024, creating a 34-player Scholarship squad for next season.
The new Scholarship players signed their registration forms on Saturday at the MKM Stadium ahead of our fixture against Castleford Tigers, before being unveiled at half-time and taking part in a parade around the pitch alongside their progressing first year counterparts.
Hull FC Player Performance Manager and Scholarship Head Coach, Richard Tate, said: “We’re really pleased to welcome another very talented group of young scholars to the Hull FC family for next season.”
“Through the guidance and fantastic work of their amateur clubs and schools, and the continued support of their families, these young players have already shown a great work ethic and a real desire to become the best that they can be.”
“Myself and all the youth development staff are excited to be working with the group, who will join our progressing first year scholars in the upcoming summer holidays.”
“We’d also like to say a big thank you to all our Talent ID staff for their continued hard work to help identify, support and recruit the best junior players from Hull, the surrounding areas and further afield.”
The club would like to congratulate their new intake of Scholarship players and wish them the very best of luck with their development here at the Black & Whites!
