Hull FC’s U16s Girls are in Yorkshire Cup Final action on Wednesday evening, looking to upset the odds against Greetland All-Rounders in Dewsbury.
The Black & Whites will be aiming to return to East Yorkshire with silverware, but must subject their opposition to their first defeat of the season if they are to do so.
FC stepped up to the U16s Premier Division for the 2024 season after narrowly missing out on the U16s East Division title last year – Hull have enjoyed mixed fortunes so far, winning four of their nine league fixtures, but will take confidence two comprehensive victories so far in the Yorkshire Cup, beating Dewsbury Moor 36-6 in the Quarter-Final, and Heworth 38-0 in the Semi-Finals.
Greetland have got the better of the Airlie Birds twice in the league so far, but Ben Thorpe’s side will be aiming for revenge on Wednesday night against the currently undefeated outfit.
Speaking to hullfc.com ahead of the match, Thorpe said: “As a team, we’re really looking forward to playing in the final on Wednesday night, but we’re under no illusions as to how tough an opposition Greetland will be.
“They have proven to be the team to beat this year in the league, and we know we will need to be at our very best to bring home the trophy – however, we are confident of doing so.
“We missed out on the two points only due to a last minute try in our first game of the season against Greetland, before putting in a very strong first-half display in our last meeting in May.
On his side’s season so far, he added: “It’s been a positive start to the season for us – moving up into a new division and new faces to build into our existing squad, we’re happy with where we’re at.
“We started slowly, but our performances have improved as the season has gone on, and we’ve shown what we are capable of in our run to this final with two really impressive victories, playing some expansive rugby which is a delight to watch.
“Five of our players have been selected for the Central Yorkshire Development Squads, which shows the talent within our side this season.”
